First Trip Around the Sun Birthday Party
My baby boy turned one this month! I do not understand how time speeds up once you have a child. I remember in high school when we had a break , even if it was just a three day weekend, It felt like such a long time. You could do anything in a three day weekend let alone summer break. Summer break felt like forever in a good way. But, now a year passes in the blink of an eye. Like what? How? Why? How has an entire year passed? Don’t get me wrong sometimes I can literally feel every single second passing before bedtime arrives. But, somehow the days are long but the years are so incredibly short. Ok so before I start crying I am going to move on and give you all the tips and ideas I have for planning an amazing space first birthday party for your little one!
The Cake
I wanted a smash cake for my little guy that had his name written in stars and had a galaxy background. So, I worked with my local bakery to design it and it came out almost exactly what I wanted! My warning for you and this cake is the frosting will dye your baby’s skin and your skin (when you wash it off) for a few days! I think if put a thin layer of Aquaphor on their skin before they dig in that will prevent this but I completely forgot to do this day off.
Photobooth
I love to have a DIY photo booth at all of my parties. It is way cheaper than you would think and it adds a really fun element and the perfect backdrop for the smash cake session. You will need a backdrop stand this is the one I have and it is extremely easy to assemble and I have had it for 4 years and have used it for parties, work, my sister’s dance team has used it and so much more and it has lasted with no signs of wear. It is one of my favorite purchases ever. It just brings ever party to the next level when you have a professional photo booth set up. If you can’t tell I am living my extra life and loving it. Enneagram 3 over here. (Enneagram is a personality test that I am obsessed with you should take it if you haven’t already)
Balloon Garland
I made a totally rookie mistake and starting looking on Etsy before looking on Amazon! Don’t make this mistake unless you like wasting money. I ordered one balloon garland on Etsy and it was over $45! Then I found the exact same thing but even better on Amazon for $15. Here are some cheaper and better in my opinion options from Amazon.
I used the Etsy balloon garland to add to my backdrop and I totally loved it but again wasted money when I could have bought the same thing on Amazon.
Below is the balloon garland I used for above the sweets table I purchased from Amazon. The number one I bought from Party City but you can buy them at Target, Walmart, Amazon, tons of other places.
Food theme
I used free printables to create custom food tags. You can get the free printables through the link below. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/161074124162089464/
Here is what I served (I also had cake and cupcakes) and what I called them for the food tags.
- Mercury Meatballs
- Mars Munchies (Chips and dip and Salsa)
- Earth Eat (Cheese/Meat tray and veggie tray)
- Jupiter’s Moons (Oreos dipped in white chocolate made to look like moons)
- Saturn Salads (Potato salad and regular salad)
- Ices of Uranus (Ice bucket)
- Neptune Nachos (Nacho/taco bar)
- Pluto’s Pasta Salad Starburst (literally Starburst)
- The Milky Way (literally Milky Way bars)
- Galaxy Bars (Rice Krispies with black, purple and blue chocolate drizzled over the top)
- The Third Rock from the Sun (Sugar cookies made to look like Earth)
Clothes
For the birthday boy, he started in this shirt from Old Navy
Then once we finished with his smash cake and had been washed off we changed him into this astronaut costume to open gifts and to get adorable pictures.
