33 Songs for Moms – To Get You Through the Hard Times and Enjoy the Good Times
33 Songs for Moms — to Get You Through the Ups and Downs of Motherhood and all the freakouts that come along with becoming a mom.
Becoming a mother is an amazing feeling but also scary as… well you know. It is seriously scary and overwhelming and wonderful all at once. It’s cray. There are moments that all moms experience (well at least all mothers I have spoken to, I guess I can’t speak for every single mother on the planet). There are like 35.2 million times I freak out every day. Literally. But, here a couple of my bigger ones followed by a list of 33 songs for moms to get through them.
The pre-birth freakout.
It goes like omg I have to push what out of what… panic attack. An orange isn’t meant to fit through a straw… this isn’t going to work… omg get it out freakout. If you end up having a rather lengthy labor and delivery like a lot of first time moms do it starts to get a little crazy in your labor and delivery suite. You go from GET THIS THING OUT OF ME LIKE NOW to OMG I’M NOT READY TO BE A MOM MAKE IT STAY IN ME FOR AN ELEPHANTS GESTATION PERIOD back to SERIOUSLY IF YOU DON’T GET THIS THING OUT OF ME RIGHT NOW… I wish I could say this was my most irrational freakout buuuut it isn’t… yea I get way more irrational later on in the post.
The exhaustion freakout.
This is the, you are exhausted from sleep deprivation and you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel freakout. The newborn stage is beautiful but it is also trying and exhausting. This freak out looks more subtle but overall ends with you wishing your life away. (I was suffering from Postpartum Depression and this stage was absolutely the hardest for me. Check out my post about it here)
You are constantly saying things like I can’t wait until this baby sleeps through the night. Or I can’t wait until this baby stops eating so often. Or I can’t wait until this baby can talk and tell me what he wants. It is such a hard time and I was wishing it away but then I heard some of the songs I list a little later in the post and I completely changed. Now I try to enjoy everything no matter how frustrating it can be.
The how the hell am I going to keep anything bad from happening to my child freakout.
This is my absolute biggest freakout. Literally, I think about this every single day and try, not always successfully, to not spiral into a full-blown panic attack. Having a baby is literally the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I am normally a little uptight about stuff but overall pretty chill. But, seriously NO BODY TOUCH MY BABY THIS ISN’T A PETTING ZOO… amirite new mommas? Why do complete strangers feel the need to touch babies they don’t know… it’s infuriating.
When we first brought our son home from the hospital I would randomly freak out about something bad happening to him. One particularly bad evening, I was talking to my husband and freaking out about our son being hurt in a house fire. So, my husband level-headedly says “Well, we will protect him. We just installed all new smoke detectors. He isn’t going to be hurt.” And I respond like a crazy person “not here I mean in his frat house in college.” My husband just stared at me and somehow responded level headily again “let’s just get through today ok?” Now, I know my hormones played a large role in this specific example but still the worrying never ends.
With everything going on in the world it is seriously a scary time to raise a child. Between school shootings, terrorist attacks, hate crimes and every other tragically terrible thing going on I freak out wondering how I will keep my son safe. It is not easy thinking about the future when your amazingly beautiful baby will be off on their own and you can’t control the entire world. I can’t right? Alright alright I know I can’t. So since we can’t control everything here are some songs to help you get through the tough times and remind you that your little one will be just fine.
